What We Believe
Developing students’ intellects and personalities
We believe that a good education shapes the growth of an individual’s creativity, knowledge and character. Recognizing all children as capable, we celebrate their differences and the development of their intellects and personalities. We believe that encouraging exploration, problem solving and an enthusiasm for learning builds independent thinkers, leaders and confident members of society.
At Phyl’s Academy we know all big trees started as tiny seeds, planted in fertile foundations. For our young students, Phyl’s Academy is that foundation, a place to blossom and take their first steps towards becoming all that they can be.
Our History
Founded in 1979
In 1979 Phyllis Frempong-Boadu, our founder, was a full-time registered nurse, wife and mother who knew the challenge of finding quality, affordable childcare in her community. With the obvious need and a true love for children, she started Phyl’s Academy with a clear goal – to nurture and educate every child who came through the doors. Phyllis absolutely loved what she was doing and the community loved her back.
From a humble start with an enrollment of 2 children, Phyl’s Academy has grown to serve hundreds of students annually through accredited Early Childhood, Elementary, Extended Day, Enrichment and Summer Camp programs. In 1988, the first Fort Lauderdale branch of Phyl’s Academy was opened, expanding our services beyond the New York City area.
In these more than 40 years, there has naturally been growth and transition, but the truly important things stay the same. Our goal remains to nurture and challenge every child who comes through our doors. We are still a community of educators who love what we do and dedicate each day to ensuring that Phyl’s Academy students are inspired, motivated and confident as they take their first steps towards becoming all they are meant to be.
Thank you for visiting Phyl’s Academy online to learn more about our progressive program. We look forward to welcoming you to our Phyl’s Village family.
